Taming the Wild Beast – or Just Helping Your Pet Relax – May Be As Easy As Playing a CD

May 17, 2011 (New York, NY) - In 63% of all households, a member of the family often includes a pet of some kind.  This isn’t unusual, as pets are unconditional friends in good and bad times and we love having them around.

Like People….dogs, cats and other animals often can become anxiety or stress ridden – which is most often associated with change.  It could be a change in where they live, loss of a family member, addition of another pet – there are all sorts of reasons.

It should come as no surprise that, as with people, music has a significant positive effect. It has proven effective in relieving pets in stressful situations including separation anxiety, travel, thunderstorms, fireworks, injury recovery and new surroundings.

Music My Pet’s “Classic Cuts” CD features classical music selected specifically for animals to provide comfort and relieve anxiety.  After entertaining children as a performer on Disney’s Baby Einstein DVDs/CDs, producer and composer Tom Nazziola decided to create music for household pets.  Nazziola chose songs that would be most calming for animals and re-orchestrated popular classical music – including composers Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert and others - using sounds and chords that are best suited to soothe pets. In some cases, he removed some of the dramatic passages and replaced them with more calm, consistent sections.

Music My Pet has begun introducing its CDs to animal shelters amongst other pet organizations as a way to help ease the transition into a new and sometimes overwhelming environment. According to Nazziola, Music My Pet is especially effective in calming older pets that may become nervous when no one is around.

The first part of “Classic Cuts” contains a high frequency pitch only audible to your pet to catch its attention, following which are the calming sounds of the harp, flute, classical guitar and piano.  Don’t be surprised when Fido starts to nod off that you might, too, as the CD is music to everyone’s ears. For the winter months, warm up to Music My Pet’s recent CD release  “Holiday Treats” - featuring soothing seasonal sounds for you and your pet!
