Taming the Wild Beast – or Just Helping Your Pet Relax – May Be As Easy As Playing a CD

May 17, 2011 (New York, NY) - In 63% of all households, a member of the family often includes a pet of some kind.  This isn’t unusual, as pets are unconditional friends in good and bad times and we love having them around.

Like People….dogs, cats and other animals often can become anxiety or stress ridden – which is most often associated with change.  It could be a change in where they live, loss of a family member, addition of another pet – there are all sorts of reasons.

It should come as no surprise that, as with people, music has a significant positive effect. It has proven effective in relieving pets in stressful situations including separation anxiety, travel, thunderstorms, fireworks, injury recovery and new surroundings.

Music My Pet’s “Classic Cuts” CD features classical music selected specifically for animals to provide comfort and relieve anxiety.  After entertaining children as a performer on Disney’s Baby Einstein DVDs/CDs, producer and composer Tom Nazziola decided to create music for household pets.  Nazziola chose songs that would be most calming for animals and re-orchestrated popular classical music – including composers Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert and others - using sounds and chords that are best suited to soothe pets. In some cases, he removed some of the dramatic passages and replaced them with more calm, consistent sections.

Music My Pet has begun introducing its CDs to animal shelters amongst other pet organizations as a way to help ease the transition into a new and sometimes overwhelming environment. According to Nazziola, Music My Pet is especially effective in calming older pets that may become nervous when no one is around.

The first part of “Classic Cuts” contains a high frequency pitch only audible to your pet to catch its attention, following which are the calming sounds of the harp, flute, classical guitar and piano.  Don’t be surprised when Fido starts to nod off that you might, too, as the CD is music to everyone’s ears. For the winter months, warm up to Music My Pet’s recent CD release  “Holiday Treats” - featuring soothing seasonal sounds for you and your pet!

Music My Pet - Pet separation anxiety

Welcome to Music My Pet's Blog! Were busy working to make it easy for you to learn about us and how we can help you to help your pet. Over the years, we've helped thousands of people with pets in need of a calming soothing natural solution to pet separation anxiety, loud noise fear, unfamiliar surroundings, car trips and many other emotional stresses on pets.

Many studies have shown that pets respond favorably to classical music under stress-inducing situations and often slip into a very serene and peaceful state of mind after only a few minutes of listening; However, I’ve discovered it is important to use music that maintains a soothing dynamic from start to finish, which is NOT the case with most “off-the-shelf” classical music.

The result of both the research and a very careful selection process (with regard to music) is Music My Pet’s first release, “Classic Cuts” - a CD featuring classical music of some of the greatest composers in music history (Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin and more). “Classic Cuts” is designed to calm pets in a variety of situations (e.g. when a pet’s owner leaves the house, thunder, sirens, loud noises, new surroundings, etc.). All selections on this CD have been re-orchestrated using the sounds, chords and harmonies that soothe common household pets – and their owners!

As a suggestion, play “Classic Cuts” whenever a situation arises that may cause your pet to become stressed. For best results, listen at a relatively low volume and select the “continuous play ” or “random play” button on your CD player - this will effectively repeat the program until you wish to manually stop the music.

We're on Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter & others. Stop by our website and have a look around. Turn your speakers on to hear a sample of the music playing in the background. We also have a "Listen Here" page where you can listen to other samples of music on the CDs we offer.
